The sixth edition of the “Summer school for urology residents” has taken place this year on 6th to 9th of July.

More than 50 urology residents from most of the Romanian Urology Clinics have participated in this year’s edition. Expanding the boundaries of this event, for the first time and hopefully not the last, we had the extraordinary participation of three residents from the Republic of Moldova.

The Romanian Association of Urology has made considerable efforts to organize the summer school in best possible conditions. The event took place at “Pestera” Hotel, at 1600 meters altitude, in the “Bucegi” Natural Park, near a serene monastery and cave.

The three-day event included sessions that featured state-of-the-art lectures complemented by interactive case discussions and videos. Subject ranged from urodynamics, benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate cancer to reproductive and sexual medicine. All lectures were held by distinguish Romanian Urology faculty, each of them experts in their particular clinical field. There were also two very interesting non-urological lectures regarding career counseling and public speaking.

Insights from the faculty members and their tips on the practical applications of guidelines, the comprehensive updates and current best practices, certainly makes “Summer School for Urology Residents” a unique opportunity for the young doctors.

As a novelty for this edition, the participants had the opportunity of practicing their surgical skills during hands-on training sessions using last generation virtual reality simulators for both lower and upper urinary tract endoscopic procedures and newest endoscopic instruments from Olympus.

Already a tradition this year, a contest for residents consisting of a clinical case presentation and 120 multiple choice questions test has taken place, the Urology Residents Cup.

The success of this event so far leads us to continue bringing together urology residents and professionals in this field to share their experience, knowledge and learn the latest news in the field.
