At the initiative of the founding editors, academics of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” Bucharest, members of the General Surgery and Emergency Clinic III of the University Emergency Hospital of Bucharest and at the request of the Romanian Students' Society of Surgery (SSCR), we would like to edit a journal to include the representative scientific papers drawn up at the students’ scientific circles of the medical faculties in the country. These papers were presented at the students’ sessions of the National Congresses of Surgery, National Conferences of Surgery, and the Student’s Congresses.

The aim of this journal is to support the development of scientific research, as well as the publishing activity of the future doctors starting as early as the faculty years.

The underlying basis of this initiative is our conviction that the most important aspect of the quality of the medical school, with its various aspects consisting primarily of medical research and the practical activity in hospitals, is the student-professor relationship. The relational dimension between these two parties develops in the case of the Universities of Medicine as a special connection, because trust and communication do not represent a tribute paid to one another, but are mandatory aspects defining this interaction, representing a relevant long-term indicator for the results of any young doctor.

The editorial committee and the editorial board include, besides renowned personalities of Romanian surgery (Academician Ioanel Sinescu - Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” Bucharest, Professor Florian Popa, Ph.D - Vice President of the Healthcare Commission of the Senate of Romania), a number of enthusiastic students from the Universities of Medicine in Romania, as well as representative students from the IASSS –                      The International Association of Student Surgical Societies.

Undoubtedly, under the supervision of the academics from various surgical departments, the students will be able to carry on research in experimental and clinical surgery, whose results will be embodied in papers and publications, where the students will be first authors and the supervising academics will complete the list of authors.

The journal will be published in English, which will ensure a wide dissemination in the international media and will also make it an accessible material for the students of the English teaching modules from the Universities of Medicine in Romania; we are also confident that the open access online edition will broaden the framework of the citations.

The exceptional printing conditions and graphics, provided by the prestigious University Medical Publishing House “Carol Davila”, courtesy of its manager, Assoc. Prof. Victor Lorin Purcărea, under the patronage of the Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” Bucharest, Academician Ioanel Sinescu, will ensure the success of our initiative.
